The 2014 Easter Seminar has just been over – and “over” means that the dojo in Cologne has been cleaned, the remaining food from the Non-Talent Show has been eaten, bills have been paid, and an after-after-seminar party can take place.
I’m really struck how smoothly the seminar was running and what a spectrum of attendees there were – both “teachers” and “students” – need the quotation marks here as the teachers were students in each other’s classes. And because some of the “students” are aikido teachers. The honour attendance goes to Muhamed Amet – his first airplane trip to a foreign country for an aikido seminar – and to Guy Pharand for making the trip from Sudbury, Canada. The Spanish group of a dozen aikidokas brought with them the warm aikido-weather from Spain – full relaxation, good jokes, sensitivity and technical skills, which for some of them are no longer necessary – and the study of “ki”.
There’s never been such a high-class Non-Talent show. Maybe next year we need to have auditions. Candela’s jazz singing All of Me with David on the piano, Guy’s amazing card tricks, Thomas’ pantomime, Jörg’s and Simone’s tango, Cornelius’ deep probing interviews and midnight piano-bar with singing. Please just forget Chopin’s H-minor Sonata. Thanks. Somehow this was nothing separate from the aikido-classes, but just a continuation of the contact, communication, and touch.
When I think why this was one of the best seminars ever, I can only say that there was no judgement: nobody to judge the teachers – they taught their own personal way of the ki, and the attendees understood and could choose their preferences. There was a lack of moral authority to judge right and wrong, and to make things good or bad. It was really like water ( theme of Dirk’s teaching ): no judgement, and just flowing. I’d like to keep these seminars like that.
For posterity, I’d just like to name the themes of the other lessons: Matti ( What a Dream/Just the Center), Luis ( Hear Your Partner/Vertical not Horizontal ), Cornelius ( Stay Connected ) , Jörg ( Don’t stand on the way of partner’s ki/Walking in the Crowd) and Pedro ( The Child’s Mind ). I’m quite sure that David will make a blues album with those titles as songs…
A video will follow.
See you in 2015.
